Stranraer locals support vital St John Scotland service

Publication date 24 September 2019

A charity Will scheme run by Stranraer solicitors Smith & Valentine has raised just over £2,000 for St John Scotland in West Galloway.

The firm invited clients who wanted to make a Will to waive their usual £100 fee, and instead make a donation of their choice to a local charity.

Many clients took up the offer, which ran for the month of May, raising an impressive sum of just over £2,045.

The funds will benefit our volunteer-run Patient Transport service in the area, which enables local cancer patients to access treatments in the central belt. The service helps around 100 patients each year, and recently celebrated its 21st anniversary.

Donations from the charity Will scheme will be put towards the purchase of a new vehicle, to allow the team to help more patients in future.

A spokesperson for Smith & Valentine solicitors said: “It is important to us to support local causes and one of the ways we do this this is through our Charity Will Scheme. We run this annually in our offices in Girvan and Newton Stewart, and this year we were delighted to be able to extend this initiative to our newly opened Stranraer office. We chose to support St John Scotland in 2019 as we recognise the vital service they provide within our local community and through our Charity Will Scheme we can help raise funds and also awareness of the great work St John Scotland do.”
